Cheerful Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale Unlikely
Like usual, tough times appear to be ahead for our heroes. This time around though, the ending to this season's mid-season finale had actor Norman Reedus (Daryl) apparently crying for an hour straight before filming the scene - via TV Guide:
The theory has been for a while now that Carol is going to be the next one to become walker-bait, and the recent Carol-centric episode, plus Norman Reedus having a "devastating" scene seems to support that theory.
We'll see if Team Rick makes it through the face off with Team Hospital intact!
Stay tuned for our after show write up tomorrow morning!
Reedus describes the hour's final moments as so "devastating" that they unleashed an intense wave of feelings before the cameras rolled. "I sat on an apple box with my head between my legs and just bawled for an hour," he says. "I really wanted not to tear up during [the scene] — I wanted to be like I had wasted every tear in my body before we started shooting — so I just sat there and cried and cried and cried.

The Walking Dead: Crossed

Rick planning out the episode we want to see... |
So, episode starts out good. Rick's laying out the plan to take the hospital. They set up a distraction and draw out some of the cops, then move in stealthily. Daryl will take out the first guard. How's he going to do that? Slit his throat. Then they move in with blades and suppressed weapons.
Sounds like we're in for a rocking, action packed episode, right?

The Walking Dead goes Urban Survival
After a couple snoozer episodes, I really dug this past week's episode of the Walking Dead, titled "Consumed".
Some great post-apocalyptic scenery as Carol and Daryl returned to explore the ruins of Atlanta in search of Beth. And I am certainly a sucker for exploring desolate apocalyptic urban landscapes...for some reason, strangely beautiful and fascinating. Felt a bit like the zombie classic 28 Days Later.
Thumbs up to the show here for some good work here. Excellent cinematography, set design, etc. And cool to revisit some of the iconic places from earlier in the series.
Also enjoyed a few of the urban survival elements that were comparatively well done, if you were paying attention:
- Struggles with locked doors, chains and other barriers (and having the tools to deal with them)
- Acquiring transportation when needed
- Using existing shelter
- Scavenging water and other supplies
- Importance of stealth and observing unknown forces from afar
- Necessity of traveling light
What did you guys think? Think anyone will catch a bullet or walker bite in next week's jail break episode, "Crossed"/

The Walking Dead: Strangers
Some standout dialog from this week's episode:
"I sent you away..." - Rick
"You said I could survive...you were right." - Carol
"I sent you away to this--and now we're joining you. Will you have us?" - Rick
"Now, I need you to hear what I'm about to say, ok? You are not safe. No matter how many people are around, or how clear the area looks, no matter what anyone says, no matter what you think--you are not safe. It only takes one second. One second...and it's over. Never let your guard down. Ever." - Rick to Carl (and his old 'Farmer Rick' self)

The Walking Dead returns for season 5

Our buddy Glenn wishing he'd practiced restraint escapes... |
Good improvising of weaponry by Team Rick, too. With a little work, a belt buckle becomes makeshift Wolverine claws.
A standout scene for me was the conversation between with the captured baddie and Tyrese. The scumbag straight up points out how illogical it is that they haven't killed him yet--"Why am I still alive? How can that help you?" It shows TWD is aware, at least at times, of the character's seemingly senseless survival decisions. In the zombocolypse, you don't have the luxury of taking prisoners. Kill all those bad guys and let God sort 'em out.
Overall, solid, tense episode. Several great ass kicking moments from the good guys, and the show continues to have me on the edge of my seat waiting for characters to die at any moment.
What did you think? Did the episode get you thinking about anything? Let us know in the comments.

The Walking Dead - Season 5 Trailer
Trailer for the new season of TWD dropped at Comic-Con. Looks like Team Rick is teaming up with the scam artist cannies from Terminus.
I'm going to guess that's a match that doesn't last...

The Walking Dead - Episode 410: Inmates
After what I thought was an odd placement for the 'Carl Eats Pudding' episode, the Walking Dead returns from the break. We've got various buddy pairs, scattered and running after the fall of the prison, and plenty-o questions from the mid-season break are answered.
Spoilers and pictures after the break, so don't say you haven't been warned :)

AMC's The Walking Dead Marathon
Warning: Gore content alert. Plenty o' corn syrup filled prop heads getting smooshed in the above clip :)
Heads up to those who have missed out on the Walking Dead or are in the mood for a marathon of non-stop zombie gore, suspense and entertainment - AMC is running a marathon of the entire series to date, starting today (New Year's Eve) Season 1 has already started, and episodes will be running until 4am on Jan 2nd. Fire up those DVRs or get yourself a mountain o' caffeinated beverages.
Most of the previous seasons are available via NetFlix and Amazon Prime, but this is your best bet to get caught up on season 4 before the show returns from winter hiatus in February.
Happy New Year's to all! Stay safe!

The Walking Dead - Mid-Season 4 - How Last season should have ended
Spoiler alert! You have been warned.
First, we had to kill off the leftover citizens from Woodbury with the mystery illness. These folks were never going to last long, but we all knew a lame plague was not going to kill off any of the main characters.
Then, we had to build the Governor back up to a threat with an army. And try to humanize him a bit...do some soul searching before turning him back into the psychotic killer we all know.
We did finally get the big prison vs Governor showdown, and it was intense, brutal and tragic...but, we should have had it at the end of last season, and not have to be subjected to a string of what I have thought to be fairly dull, throwaway episodes.
So, big happenings. The Prison has fallen. Hershel died a horrible, gruesome death. That sucked, a lot, as ol' one leg is one of the only stable, capable characters on the show.
The Governor is apparently dead, though we didn't SEE him die...and if you don't see someone die, well, they are probably still alive and kicking. I want him to be dead, hope he is dead, but think we might see him come back. The girlfriend and her sister could have gotten him out...the girlfriend is a nurse, could sorta patch that katana wound up...Why Michonne wouldn't chop off Govies head is beyond me.
Along those lines, we were made to think Baby Judith became a zombie snack, but I think Tyrese and the Carol Squad saved her. Safe bet on that one.
So, the group is scattered to the four winds...the bus, Maggie's group, Tyrese and a bunch of little girls, Daryl and Blondie, and beat up Rick and Carl. Another example of why your group needs a bug out plan, as well as contingency rally points for when the crap hits the fan. And commo equipment - even simple walkies - to help with the reunion.
What did you think? Thoughts on the season so far? Any takeaways from the battle for the prison?

The Walking Dead returns this Sunday!
Seems like it was only a few weeks ago that we left Rick, Daryl and the rest of the gang at what turned out to be a fairly happy ending for most of us--the Governor on the run and Andrea--everyone's least favorite character--dead.
This Sunday, we rejoin the crew at the Prison, six or so months down the road. Not surprisingly, bad things happen.
In the video below, the cast and crew give us some vague thoughts about what to expect, and we get a sneak peak at various facial expressions--mostly horrified. Check it out!
